Keel Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
Applies to: the Keel iPhone app
The short version
Your Keel records are stored locally on your iPhone. Keel has no account, no cloud sync and no server holding your records. The Keel team cannot access them.
You control whether to share a GP Visit Summary or export a backup. Your records may also be included in your own iPhone backups, depending on your settings.
Keel currently contains no advertising, tracking or third-party analytics. Speech recognition and supported Apple AI features run on your iPhone without sending your recordings or records to Apple, the Keel team or another service.
If you email us for technical support, we receive the information you choose to include in that email.
Keel supports preparation for healthcare conversations. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace your doctor. Nothing in Keel is medical advice.

Who we are
Keel is provided by TRY Keel Pty Ltd, ABN 50 701 528 467, based in Australia.
Keel is a companion app for adult women navigating perimenopause in Australia and New Zealand. This policy explains what information Keel handles, where it is kept and the choices you have.
Information you choose to record
Depending on the features you use, your records may include:
mood, energy, sleep, symptoms and daily check-ins
notes you type or speak
periods and cycle information
MHT, medications, treatments and supplements
changes to your treatment or approach
priorities and questions for your GP Visit Summary.
Much of this is sensitive health information. These records are stored locally on your iPhone and are not accessible to the Keel team.
Your profile
Your first name is optional. You can also choose to add a last name, age, mobile number and email address.
These details are stored locally on your iPhone. In version 1.0, your mobile number and email address are not used to contact you or create an account.
Your name and age are excluded from your GP Visit Summary unless you choose to include them. Profile details may also be included in a backup you export.
There is no sign-in or account. Keel does not collect passwords or login details.
If a future feature requires profile information to be sent to us or another service, we will explain this separately and ask for your agreement.
Information from Apple Health
Connecting Apple Health is optional. Keel can read only the categories you approve. These may include:
sleep
steps, exercise minutes, active energy, walking and running distance, and flights climbed
heart rate, resting heart rate and heart rate variability
respiratory rate and blood oxygen
blood pressure
body weight
body temperature and Apple Watch sleeping wrist temperature
menstrual flow.
Keel displays imported readings alongside your own records and labels their source. Some views compare readings to help you look back at your information. These comparisons are not a diagnosis or clinical assessment.
Keel reads from Apple Health. It does not write to or change your Apple Health records.
You can choose whether to include menstrual flow records imported from Apple Health in your GP Visit Summary. Included records are labelled as coming from Apple Health. No other Apple Health readings are included in the summary.
Apple Health information is not sold or used for advertising or marketing.
You can disconnect Apple Health or change its permissions at any time. This stops future imports of information you have stopped sharing. Readings already imported into Keel remain on your iPhone until you delete them.
Deleting imported readings from Keel does not delete the original records in Apple Health.
Why Keel uses your information
Keel uses information locally on your iPhone to:
save your records and display them over time
support medication and treatment logging
display and compare information in Looking back and Patterns
create a GP Visit Summary when you request one
provide reminders you choose to enable
support the optional app lock.
We use support correspondence to investigate technical issues, respond to you and improve Keel.
We do not sell personal or health information or use it for advertising or marketing.
On-device AI
On supported iPhones, Keel uses Apple's on-device language model to word tips for optional hydration, movement and wind-down reminders.
This processing happens entirely on your iPhone. Information used for these features is not sent to Apple, the Keel team or another service. On other phones, predefined text is used.
Your GP Visit Summary uses a fixed format and is not written by generative AI.
Keel does not provide a diagnosis or clinical assessment. Comparisons and reminders should not be treated as medical advice.
Voice input
If you choose to speak a note, Keel uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition to turn your words into text.
Audio is processed entirely on your iPhone and is not sent to Apple, the Keel team or another service. The resulting text is stored locally as part of your Keel record.
Keel uses the microphone only while you are recording after tapping the microphone control.
If on-device recognition is unavailable, or you decline the required permissions, you can type your note instead.
Your GP Visit Summary
Your GP Visit Summary presents recorded information using a fixed format. You choose the time period and can exclude information you do not want to include.
Your name and age are excluded unless you choose to include them. You can also choose whether to include menstrual flow records imported from Apple Health.
You can preview the summary before sharing it. The summary leaves Keel only when you choose to save, send, print or share it.
Every summary explains that it supports a healthcare conversation and is not a diagnosis or clinical assessment.
Once you export or share a summary, it is outside Keel. You control where you save it and who receives it. Keel cannot recall or delete those copies.
Storage and backups
Keel stores your records locally on your iPhone. It does not sync them through iCloud or CloudKit and does not operate a server holding a copy.
Your iPhone backups
Keel records are included in your own iPhone backups to iCloud or your computer when those backups are enabled. These are separate from Keel’s cloud-sync functionality, which is disabled.
You manage device backups through Apple’s settings or the software used to back up your iPhone. The Keel team cannot access those backups.
The app lock PIN is stored using device-only protection and is not synced through iCloud Keychain.
Exporting a Keel backup
You can export a backup through Restore & Backup. It contains your Keel records, profile details and imported Apple Health readings.
You can transfer that file to another phone and restore it in Keel. Keep your existing records until you have confirmed that restoration was successful.
You control where the exported file is saved and who receives it. Store it securely because it contains sensitive information. Keel does not keep a copy and cannot recover a lost backup for you.
Analytics and tracking
Keel contains no third-party analytics, advertising, tracking or app-integrated crash-reporting service. It does not use an advertising identifier.
The app uses Apple’s frameworks and has no third-party SDKs sending your records elsewhere.
Apple separately handles information relating to its services, including the App Store and any device-level diagnostics you choose to share, under its own privacy arrangements.
Technical support
For bugs or technical issues, contact keel@therecalibrationyears.com. Keel currently uses this TRY email address for support.
A support email draft includes your app version, iOS version and phone model to help us investigate. You can remove these details before sending.
We receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to include. This does not give us access to records stored in your Keel app.
Please avoid sending GP summaries, backup files or unnecessary personal health information. Remove sensitive details from screenshots before sending them.
If you include health information in your correspondence, we handle it as sensitive information and use it to address your enquiry.
Support correspondence is handled through our email service provider and accessed by Keel team members who need it to investigate and respond. We retain it for up to two years, unless longer retention is required by law.
You can contact us to request access, correction or deletion of that correspondence.
Sharing and overseas handling
The Keel team cannot access or share records stored inside your app.
You decide whether to export or share a summary or backup. Copies you save or send are handled by the services and people you choose.
Our email service provider processes support correspondence on our behalf. We may disclose correspondence we hold if required by law. Where permitted and practical, we will tell you.
Our support email is hosted by Namecheap, whose email servers are located in the United States. Support messages and attachments are processed through that service. Namecheap does not have access to records stored inside your Keel app through this email service.
Apple may process information through its own services, including device backups, outside Australia or New Zealand under its own terms.
Your choices and rights
You can:
view and edit your Keel records
choose whether to connect Apple Health and change permissions
choose whether to use voice input
choose which optional reminders to enable
decide what to include in a GP Visit Summary
export a backup
delete your locally stored Keel information.
For personal information we hold separately, such as support correspondence, you can request access, correction or deletion by emailing keel@therecalibrationyears.com.
We respond within applicable legal timeframes. For New Zealand access and correction requests, this is ordinarily within 20 working days. If a lawful extension is required, we will explain why and when you can expect a response.
Deleting your information
Within Keel
Go to Settings > Delete all my data. This deletes your Keel records, including imported Apple Health readings, cancels reminders, removes the app lock and PIN, and resets preferences. Deletion is immediate.
Deleting the app
Deleting Keel from your iPhone removes its locally stored app data. Offloading the app retains its data.
Separate copies
Deleting information in Keel does not delete exported backups, shared summaries, older device backups or original records in Apple Health. You need to manage those copies separately.
What we can delete
We cannot access or remotely delete your app records. Emailing support does not delete information inside Keel.
You can request deletion of support correspondence we hold. If we are legally required to retain information, we will explain that limitation.
There is no account to close and no server copy of your app records for us to delete.
Security
You can enable Keel’s optional app lock in Settings and unlock it using Face ID or a PIN. The app lock protects access within Keel. Exported summaries and backup files need to be stored securely wherever you save or send them.
Protect your phone and store exported summaries and backups securely. Copies outside Keel are not controlled by Keel.
We take reasonable steps to protect support correspondence we hold. No technology can remove every risk.
If a notifiable breach occurs involving information we hold, we will respond under the applicable Australian and New Zealand requirements.
Applicable privacy laws
TRY Keel Pty Ltd handles information in accordance with applicable privacy laws. These may include the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles, the Victorian Health Records Act 2001, the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020.
Changes to this policy
We will keep this policy up to date and explain material changes through the app.
If a future feature would send your health information to Keel or another service, it will be optional. Before you use it, we will explain what would be sent, why, who would receive it, retention arrangements and how to withdraw your agreement.
We will ask for your explicit agreement before sending that information. Continuing to use Keel will not count as agreement.
